So here I am in November 1958 filled with anticipation and excitment going on my first
foreign with the 1st Destroyer Squadron out East. The squadron consisted of the Solebay,
Lagos, us the Hogue, along with the radar picket Llandaff. We left Guzz and were to meet the others
out in the Channel. So it was with high expectations and optimism we sailed off.
We arrived in the Bay of Biscay and got a high priority signal to sail for Iceland. The British
Government had had enough of the Icelandic vessels Thor and Odin hassling our fishing trawlers.
And there we stayed till from November till February in bitterly cold weather, with a short stay
in Rosyth. During that time I met a nurse from Edinbrough hospital, more about that later.
Anyway we got to carry on our way out East via the Suez Canal. None of the good runs we
were supposed to have we missed them. Instead all the cesspit runs no one wanted.
Which was lucky in a way as we visited Benghazi in Libya where my brother had been killed
on National Service whilst we were in Iceland. Anyway we went on through the Suez Canal
and had a load of shit runs up the Gulf, some one hated us.
We then went on to Karachi, and from there to Ceylon to take part in Joint Exercise
Trincomalle in Ceylon. During a night exercise without lights we were rammed by the Indian
cruiser Mysore and ended up a write off. We were taken to Singapore by the Centaur whilst
we waited for a replacement vesssel to arrive from the UK. After a couple of months in Terror
the Finisterre arrived another Battle Class Destroyer for us to work up.
We then went down to Aussie and went all around spending Christmas 1959 in Melbourne.
A year spent with many ups and downs.

By the way I met my ex girl friend the next year at RAF Seletar in Singapore where she
was in married quarters. More later.

Interesting........now with runs like that my guess is you may have been the 'canteen boat'?

As for getting run down by the Eyesore what do you expect if you runa arround without lights? The wobblyheads are not all that brilliant in daylight let alone at night and then you go and turn the lights out! Bloody lucky you didn't all get killed mate!

About that period I joined the local Sea Cadets, did some flag waving and thought

" I like this stuff, I think I'll join the Royal Navy as a Bunting Tosser"

Too young at the time to know about any other kind of tosser, that came later and of course I became an expert at it but that's another story! :P :P :P :P :P
