and when you did, finally, get to sea what do you do? wash tables and clean floors and kept stuff under lock and key (OK I know its called a Store Room not an Issue Room but that's besides the point)!

Nearly as hard as the DTS 2nd Div that - we sailed at 08 anchored for lunch and returned to harbour at about 1530 so the RA's could get away home! the only ship under the white ensign where the crew wore civvies under their foul weather jackets! that included the Officers a well!

As you said Mick times wuz 'ard!!

aye that was the first division but the second division, normally one ship did sea training for the ratings - they did a week onboard ship to get used to it! Joined on a Monday all day going around the ship, sailed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday out in the morning, anchor for lunch (the idea was to let the sprogs watch and anchor being dropped and raised, so it was on the schedule, sensible captings did it at lunch time for obvious reasons) then once round the bay and back in for the night! Every now and again we'd do a foreign - one week to Pompey one week back! Did that for three months on the Scarborough as we'd just come out of refit and missed Dartmouth term times, then back to the usual stuff! I also did it for three months on the Venus (my first ship) when I should have been joining the Eagle with you lot! The foreigns there where more fun - Grenoch and Gibraltar (for the christmas rabbits)
