I don't think there were many gunners who at some time didn't do landing party! I were lucky, being a crap shot - I'd get bored during the annual (?) shoot and ping away at somebody else's target! Nothing more fun than that big red flag being waved over my target, with the comment from the range a couple of people down that they had two holes in thier target, one in the bull and the other close by it!

Also being an RP often meant I'd be in the boat taking the landing party ashore, either as crew or as cox'n! Sod that silly idea of stomping up and down in the mud! If I'd wanted to be a pongo don't you think I'd have joined the army?

So you got to drive a "motorised contaceptive" eh? that must have been nice for you! I drove a few of those things as well, the trouble with pusser was they only let you have a twenty horse power outboard - I trained with the booties they had a forty horsepower, it just wasn't the same after using one of they things! The need for speed or what!

Great fun those things were! In the Merch we had smaller ones with a ten horsepower on the back - seagulls could swim faster!
