and your problem is? Remember that my father spent some time as the Area Chief Scientist, District 6 working for the National Coal Board (which of course was why I was never allowed to work down the pit - he knew what you could get down there!) But I've visited a few!

there was nothing wrong with working down a pit.. safe if you knew what you was doing.. accidents happen everywhere,,weather wise, no snow, no rain,, ok no sunshine, but the moral was great..and in the end the pay was good, in the 80s bring home pay was usually over 150pound a week, good bonus,,,work hard play hard,,if only there had not been so many betting shops around.. still such is life,,,,

any job where the risks are high tends to have a great "camaraderie" goes with the territory, wages tend to be good too (unless you are at sea of course)

Aye that was the Pusser for you - the army has a better system, you joined a Regiment and stayed there until you left or reached WO2 before you moved on! Warrant Officers and Ruperts moved around a bit of course but often went back to the same regiment on a regular basis - meant you got to know the guys you were with! Makes a big difference once you 'come out' of course
